Kelly Baxter, Chair of Tostan’s Board of Directors and board member of Tostan Canada, recently spent two weeks in Senegal participating in Tostan’s strategic planning for 2022-2030, and also celebrating Tostan’s 30th anniversary.
It was a rare opportunity to look back and forward at the same time. Staff, board members, partners, community leaders, funders, and friends gathered to celebrate 30 years of advancing community well-being, and also delve into important conversations about how Tostan might scale its impact over the next decade.
The organization has really grown and developed over the past five years under the stewardship of CEO, Elena Bonometti. It is exciting to see Tostan delivering even more impactful and transformational programs and training opportunities, investing in the leadership of our team based in Africa, strengthening partnerships, and improving our internal systems.
Tostan Founder, Molly Melching, captured the emotion of the occasion well:
“I am filled with pride to see the meaningful and satisfying work being done at Tostan. Seeing rural girls and women step up to new opportunities, to roles at the family, community, and district level, with new knowledge and increased confidence in their ability to effect change – and especially with the support of their husbands, as well as the support of traditional and religious leaders — it is really a dream come true!”
